To start a one-to-one video chat, simply tap on your friend's name to initiate a call with him or her. Once they answer, you'll see a video of them, as well as a video of yourself in the upper left corner.
Rather than chat live with your friend, you can also send them a video message. To do so, look for their name next to an icon of an arrow on a pink background. When you tap in, a video will start to be created. You can take a video of yourself to send to them, and you can also flip the camera view to record what you are looking at rather than yourself by tapping on the blue camera icon on the video message screen.
IMO provides great support for group video chat as well. To start, tap "New Group Video Call" and select (or invite) the contacts that you want to chat with. When all of your contacts are available (you'll receive a notification each time someone accepts a request for a group chat), simply tap the blue video camera icon at the top right of the screen.
In addition to video chat, IMO also offers a great interface to chat by text. To chat by text, tap on your friends name, but instead of tapping the video camera icon at the top right of the resulting screen, simply start typing in the text field provided. You can add an impressive array of multimedia to your messages as well:
Tap the image icon on the right of the text input field to insert a photo from your camera roll. (Note: you'll be asked to update your settings to allow IMO to access your camera roll if you haven't already done so.)
Tap the smiley face icon to the right in the text message area to insert a sticker from amongst the dozens of choices, or to even draw your own note using the paintbrush icon.
Tap the pink video camera icon to the left of the text entry screen to insert a video message.
